Here’s some of the latest news on BLANCO sinks from WIRED Magazine, Kitchen & Bath Design News, Interior Design, Phoenix Home & Garden and Better Homes & Gardens Kitchen & Bath Ideas.
BLANCO has launched its 2010 advertising campaigns to run in Elle Decor, House Beautiful, Metropolis, Interior Design, Kitchen & Bath Design News and Better Homes & Gardens Special Interest Publications. These three new ad messages capture the essence of what consumers and designers are looking for today in sink designs. 1) Individual style. The ARCON™ sink is at once modern and traditional – a blend of soft arches and sophisticated straight lines that says I’m uniquely different – and I go where I want to go. 2) Individual color. Sinks don’t have to always be stainless. They can be warm, hot or cool too! Create your own look with the palette of six SILGRANIT® II sink colors that coordinate with today’s popular surfaces. 3) Buy more than just a sink. Everyone wants more. More quality. More style. More options. When what you want is more sculpture than a bowl to hold water. When it takes 48 steps and 30 artisans to create one spectacular sink from a single sheet of stainless. Then that’s more than a sink. That’s a design statement. That’s BLANCO SteelArt®.
BLANCO MicroEdge™ has received a 2009 Good Design Award. BLANCO, among the most awarded sink and faucet companies in the world, has also won recognition for its revolutionary MicroEdge technology from the iF Awards, Professional Builder 100 Best New Products Award, and K+BB Product Innovator Award. The BLANCO FLOW™ sink featuring MicroEdge technology also won a Red Dot Design Award and was a 2009 Interior Design “Best of Year” Winner.
The Good Design Award is presented each year by the Chicago Athenaeum, Museum of Architecture and Design. Recipients are recognized for the most innovative and cutting-edge industrial, product and graphic designs produced around the world.
Founded in 1988, the Museum is dedicated to the Art of Design in all areas of the discipline: architectural, industrial and product design, graphics and urban planning. The emphasis of the Good Design program (chi-athenaeum.org) is on quality of the highest form, function and aesthetic, a standard beyond ordinary consumer products and graphics. The program forwards the ideals of a design process that embodies product excellence and endurance and strong public identity.
2009 was a year to remember (and an economy to forget about)! Despite the tough economic climate, BLANCO’s strong financial position, geographic diversity and quality (German-made) products allowed us to leverage every opportunity for long-term growth. And we’ve succeeded. The changes made in 2009 are already impacting our positive sales numbers moving into 2010.
BLANCO introduced 69 innovative new products in 2009 – including STELLAR, PERFORMA, ARCON™, PRECISION™ 16”, MicroEdge™ (FLOW™) and SILGRANIT® II! We launched the exclusive STEELART® brand at K/BIS (Kitchen and Bath Industry Show) – BLANCO STEELART represents the pinnacle of handcraftsmanship and precision technology in sink design.
These new products were extremely well received by the design community. MicroEdge won significant design awards including a Red Dot award for FLOW, Good Design Award, Professional Builder’s Top 100 Most Innovative Products, K+BB’s Product Innovator Awards and Interior Design’s Best of Year. SILGRANIT II was picked as one of Better Homes & Gardens’ Top Products of 2009. In all, we received about 50 million press impressions in 2009 in TV, radio, online and print. More than 5x the exposure we received in 2008.
From a quiet, but competent family-owned company since 1925, BLANCO has emerged as a solid worldwide leader for innovation, quality and design in the sink and faucet business.
So what’s new for 2010?
We have another fantastic year planned for 2010. And while 2009 will be a hard act to follow as far as new product introductions – we will be launching eco-friendly green products including water-saving faucets as well as some interesting surprises. We have new sink designs and colors that are so “on trend” – they’ve already won international design awards in Europe. BLANCO will also launch a new line of faucets that affirm their status as the jewel of the kitchen. And a new, improved website that will make it easier to find products, specs and information on everything BLANCO. Several existing new products will continue to lead our Designer-focused collections including STEELART-MicroEdge, ARCON, FLOW, PRECISION 16” (R0 and R10) – and we plan to participate in both K/BIS (Chicago, April) and ICFF (International Contemporary Furniture Fair, NYC, May). We have much to be thankful for and much to look forward to in 2010 as we continue to grow as a company and as a brand.
BLANCO MicroEdge™ (FLOW™) won Interior Design’s prestigious Best of Year Award in the competitive Kitchen Fixture Category. Winners were announced live on December 3, 2009 during a magnificent celebration at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York City. This is the 4th annual Best of Year Awards, the industry’s preeminent design competition recognizing superior projects and products in 65 categories. MicroEdge also won Professional Builder’s Top 100 Best New Products Award earlier this year and FLOW won an international red dot award.
The magazine received over 1,200 entries and the online voting system garnered nearly 30,000 votes, narrowing down the category finalists. A subsequent judging by panel occurred the week following to determine the 2009 Best of Year winners. Judges included Lauren Rottet of Rottet Studio; Ali Tayar of Parallel Design; John Bricker of Gensler; Rick Focke of HOK; Mark Zeff of Zeff Design; Todd DeGarmo of Studios Architecture; and Interior Design editor in chief Cindy Allen, who selected winners from a total of 247 finalists in 64 categories.
“This is a proud moment for all of BLANCO,” states Tim Maicher, Director of Marketing for BLANCO. “Interior designers participated in voting for the finalists which means our product, our brand was recognized by the design community with their highest compliment. Our win is especially sweet given the other nominees in the category namely Philippe Starck (Duravit), Jamie Drake (Elkay) and Kohler’s Chef Inspired Collection. Considering the competitive field, BLANCO stood tall because designers immediately recognized the innovation and craftsmanship surrounding the MicroEdge FLOW concept. What a stunning launch and validation for the STEELART® brand going forward!”
