BLANCO receives two out of five Innovative Product of the Year Awards at the ninth annual Decorative Plumbing and Hardware Association conference, held October 15-17 at the Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa. Hollywood, Florida. BLANCO RONIS is awarded the Innovative New Plumbing Product of the Year Award and BLANCO SOLON Compost System won for Innovative New Accessories Product of the Year.

The conference drew nearly 400 dealers, manufacturers’ representatives and sales personnel from around the country for three days of workshops, networking events and DPHA committee meetings. Entries were evaluated based on their technological and design innovation by a panel of judges who are media and marketing leaders in their field.

The Poggenpohl showroom at the Design Center of the Americas (DCOTA) in Dania Beach, Florida is the company’s oldest and has been open for almost 20 years. Werner Lutz is a designer who has been with the showroom from the beginning. Many of the incredible projects Werner designed have been featured in Architectural Digest, Florida Design, Ocean Drive and Florida International Magazine. He took a few minutes to talk to us about the showroom, BLANCO and his favorite “must have” items for the kitchen.

1. We know that Poggenpohl uses BLANCO in their showroom vignettes and projects. What is it about BLANCO that goes with your design point of view?

“BLANCO’s product selection offers numerous sink designs that seamlessly integrate into the Poggenpohl design philosophy of Modern Classic and Modern Purism designs. Especially the SteelArt® sinks fit Poggenpohl’s contemporary design language of clean lines, functionality and performance.”

2. Describe your vision for the showroom and its growth. What can customers find when they come to Poggenpohl at DCOTA?

“We continue to participate in DCOTA’s special events, and just recently hosted a Designer Lunch to introduce our latest +ARTESIO product line, which we will showcase in a new premium display by summer of 2011. Even though the DCOTA is a ‘Trade only’ building, the kitchen showrooms located at the DCOTA welcome the individual home owner to work with us directly, and we have several nicely appointed displays to inspire.”

3. If you could pick one essential component of a kitchen – one you couldn’t live without – what would you tell your customers?

“I love open kitchens. Every kitchen, no matter how small, should have a space for friends and family to ‘hang out’ while the ‘chef’ is at work. It can be a small bar counter or seating area, but it should be inviting to others to join in and communicate. Who knows, maybe they even chop the onions?”
