What makes Poggenpohl different is its ability to think afresh time and time again. It is one of the best known kitchen brands in the world – present in more than 70 countries around the globe. BLANCO is Poggenpohl’s “go-to” brand for sinks and faucets due to its quality German engineering and state-of-the-art design. Cheryl Carpenter, Poggenpohl Houston designer and studio manager, says “Blanco is a trusted, well respected German brand.” They recently selected a SILGRANIT II® sink for their showroom update.  “Not all of our clients want stainless (sinks) so BLANCO’s SILGRANIT II is a great alternative,” Carpenter explains.

Carpenter also commented on a recent design where she used a BLANCO sink as well. “I designed an all white kitchen that had a Chocolate brown slab of quartz backsplash. The Blanco sink in café brown looks amazing and the client is thrilled with both the look and the performance of the sink.”

“Cubanit is a popular color at Poggenpohl and in this display we used it to complement our TEAK décor quartz,” continues Carpenter. “The BLANCO SILGRANIT II truffle color is new and looked like it was going to be a good match… it looks amazing together.”

New Trends in Kitchen Sink/Faucet Designs:

New sinks, like the BLANCO CRYSTALLINE offer an integrated cutting board that actually hides the sink when not in use. The sink is the heart of the kitchen – one of the hardest working appliances in the home. Sinks today do double duty for prep and cleaning to save space in the kitchen.

Chef-inspired themes are still hot but the designs are becoming sleeker and more sophisticated. The CULINA with its closed coil design prevents entanglement and is easier to clean with a streamlined look.

BLANCO’s SILGRANIT® II sinks made of granite and a patented formula of acrylic resins are indestructible and are one of the hottest growing segments in BLANCO’s product line. Their beautiful colors and durable construction are hitting a hot button with consumers.

Consumers want to feel good and will lean towards green companies like BLANCO. The SOLON Compost Systems lets consumers design green living into their kitchens while saving counter and under counter space.

BLANCO debuts the new CULINA faucet video on YouTube this week. Kitchen designers and Design Council members Susan Serra, CKD CAPS of Susan Serra Associates and Grace Kelly, of Kitchen Designs by Ken Kelly star in this short video which gives a designer’s perspective on selecting a kitchen faucet.

This week we enjoyed some pretty scary kitchen remodeling stories and tips from designers on how to avoid haunting your home. If you have a remodeling tip, please feel free to comment below. The last scary shot is of a shallow, small and unattractive sink from BLANCO Design Council member Susan Serra, CKD at www.thekitchendesigner.org. Help us Susan. What can we do about this scary sink!

Tip #5: Join beauty and function. Understated design.

According to Susan, “I mean, come on people – nostalgia is great and warm and fuzzy and all but, to a point, no? This lovely vintage sink/strainer ensemble has seen many hard (and depressing) working days at the sink, at least it looks like it! Buh bye – this kitchen is slated to change out to one designed for the 21st century. A modern, understated, sink design and faucet (yes, I do not think we will keep that faucet) is on tap to enable the chief cook and bottle washer to join together beauty AND function.”

According to designer Susan Serra, this scary sinks needs to go buh bye.

BLANCO’s Design Council, an elite group of designers/bloggers toured Toronto last week for Canada’s Interior Design Show (IDS11). The Design Council toured BLANCO’s SILGRANIT facility in Toronto – where a majority of North American SILGRANIT sinks are made. Designers were treated to a sneak peak of the new SILGRANIT II Truffle sink collection, displayed for the first time at IDS11 to rave reviews from the design community. Grey was the “IT” color at IDS11. Note: Truffle will launch in the U.S. in April.

Toronto’s IDS offered a wonderful array of home furnishings exhibitors, seminars and more. Beyond home goods manufacturers, there was a wide selection of craftspeople and artisans who showed off their work and the flair that makes Canadian design completely unique from both the European and American shows we’ve attended. (Take natural materials like exposed live edge wood, fur and antler… mix with modern and Nordic design elements… add Victorian influences like tea, crystal and color… and it’s uniquely CANADIAN!)

And all washed away without a trace. That’s the magic of SILGRANIT!

Upon opening in mid-2011, the 20,000-square-foot Orange County location will become Fixtures Living’s largest showroom and marks the company’s third store since first launching two years ago. We asked Danny Swaim, Vice President of Business Development to comment on BLANCO and their favorite “must have” kitchen element.

Q: What is it about BLANCO that goes with your design point of view?

A: BLANCO continually brings innovative products to market that are great looking, extremely durable and functional at the same time. We display BLANCO in a number of our kitchen vignettes as well as our sink/faucet area as we feel it’s important to allow customers to physically interact and test out the products they are considering for their homes. BLANCO’s sinks and faucets are inclusive of what a consumer wants for the most active space in their kitchen.  Their products can fit into almost every design; from a Tuscan kitchen to the most minimalistic kitchen.

Q: If you could pick one essential component of a kitchen – one you couldn’t live without – what would you tell your customers to include?

A: We believe that the BLANCO SILGRANIT sinks are must-haves in our customer’s kitchens. They are cutting edge and have led a transformation of what consumers want to see in their kitchen sink – it can be aesthetically pleasing, extremely durable and functional all at the same time.
