BLANCO has proudly won the 2012 GOOD DESIGN Award for its beautiful BLANCO MODEX™ kitchen sink workstation and for the BLANCO CERANA™, the uniquely reversible apron front fireclay sink. Presented by the world famous Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design along with The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies, the award is given for design in excellence worldwide.
CERANA is BLANCO’s first Fireclay sink in the U.S. market, and offers a unique reversible design that goes from traditional to contemporary while offering exceptional style and versatility. The smooth non-porous finish makes it easy to keep clean while the ultra-slim shape makes it simple to install.
BLANCO’s award-winning MODEX offers a distinctive raised profile that sits above the counter. MODEX features a generous amount of work space thanks to its design that allows for draining in two directions and a large integrated cutting board. One of the newest additions to the BLANCO SILGRANIT® II collection, this handsomely crafted modern sink embodies a high design standard with its extraordinary form and generous, flowing surfaces.
“It is a true honor for BLANCO’s CERANA and MODEX to be recognized internationally by the GOOD DESIGN Award jury,” states Tim Macher, Director of Marketing for BLANCO. “It is our third time winning the GOOD DESIGN Award and we are humbled by the fact that we were selected out of thousands of amazing products from 48 countries. This prestigious award certainly validates our determination and passion for creating high performance, high quality designs without compromise for beauty or the environment.”
Founded in 1950, The GOOD DESIGN Award is the oldest and most globally recognized design excellence program.
BLANCO + Modenus recently held a Tweet Up event at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) in New York City to promote water conservation – in particular to raise money through tweets for Water for People. Water for People is a charitable organization that ensures sustainable clean/safe drinking water for all people. Hundreds of tweets raised funds and reached almost one million people during the Champagne and Cupcakes themed event. Modenus also drew names to select one blogger to attend their popular BlogTour in London this fall. BLANCO wins the 2012 KBCULTURE Award in the sink category for its stunning CRYSTALLINE sink citing innovation and artistic design. In addition, an honorable mention was given to the BLANCO CERANA apron front reversible fireclay sink. KBCULTURE offers a popular and selective review of the products, places and perspectives central to kitchen and bath design. With an international following from consumers, homeowners and editors, the site is produced by Leslie Clagett, a well-known industry editor and author of The New City Home and The Smart Approach to the Organized Home. Judging along with Clagett was Alice Liao, executive editor and writer of K+BB Magazine.
The winning CRYSTALLINE offers a sliding glass cutting board, which neatly conceals the stainless steel basin and also converts them into a handy workspace for meal preparation. The sink comes in black and white and is perfect for the compact kitchen.
“CRYSTALLINE’s use of glass gives the sink a very distinctive, contemporary look,” states Leslie Clagett, founder and judge of the annual KBCULTURE Awards. “It would be great if the CRYSTALLINE countertop drain-control mechanism takes hold in the US market.”
“A reversible sink-such an imaginative concept. The green potential raised by the two-in-one design is though-provoking,” adds Clagett.
Past winner includes The BLANCO CULINA faucet, which won the 2011 KBCulture Award in the faucet category.

CERANA is BLANCO’s first Fireclay sink in the U.S. market, and offers a unique reversible design that goes from traditional to contemporary offering exceptional style and versatility
BLANCO adds another stunning and durable fixture to their collection – the reversible BLANCO CERANA Apron Front sink. CERANA is BLANCO’s first Fireclay sink in the U.S. – made of natural material that is highly resistant to shock, heat, acid, discoloration and chips. The unique, reversible design with two different corner radius measurements adds versatility as the ultra slim sink installs to feature either a traditional rounded or contemporary contoured apron front.
The newest material in luxury is actually centuries old. Fired at an intense heat of over 2100 degrees Farenheit for up to 20 hours, Fireclay sinks were first used in the late 1800s. BLANCO CERANA keeps the tradition alive while adding modern benefits of computer aided kiln production that keeps temperatures consistent for high quality control, a tight radius and a smooth non-porous finish that is extremely durable plus easy to clean. The hand-finished CERANA combines artisan technique, high tech automation and a special recipe of fine granular materials, which give the ultra slim, sink its high mechanical strength.
“The luxurious BLANCO CERANA makes a statement on many levels,“ states Tim Maicher, Director of Marketing for BLANCO. “We’re seeing the fusion of traditional and contemporary in kitchen design today. Comfort and durability blended with sophisticated styling. The same is true of CERANA. Age-old fireclay artisans blend computer engineering to take fireclay to the next level in slimness and functionality. CERANA is also uniquely reversible which allows a designer or homeowner the choice of installing it with a traditional rounded or contemporary contoured look. What’s old is new – translating material function and traditional beauty into today’s modern kitchen.”
The BLANCO CERANA sink comes in two reversible apron front single bowl styles (30” and 33”), one bar bowl style (17.25”) and retails from $595 to $1,295. It will be available in mid 2012 and comes with a limited lifetime warranty.
